  16. The Nurburgring has shown us once again this weekend why it is called “The Green Hell” - an accident that involved eight vehicles took place on the ‘Ring yesterday, with one driver being severely injured, while a rented Corvette Z06 and a BMW M3 Ring Taxi were badly damaged, as a German Police website reports.

The accident took place on the Bergwek (“mine”) section of the track, close to the site of Niki Lauda’s 1976 German Grand Prix fiery accident, around 2:00 pm (local time), with three cars braking in order to enter a road works section. A forth vehicle, with a British driver, tried to slow down but ended up hitting one of the aforementioned cars, sliding onto the grass and subsequently back on the tarmac around fifty meters (164ft) ahead, finally crashing into the other two cars.

The accident was seen by three other drivers, who slowed down in order to keep a safe distance. The eight car, an M3 Ring Taxi hit these cars, then another vehicle and ended up on the left side of the track.

One driver sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital in Koblenz, while other two were investigated by medics at the ‘Ring. Seven of the eight cars involved in the accident were damaged to the point of becoming undrivable, with the property damage exceeding EUR100,000 ($130,000). The Police is currently investigating the case.
