  2. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

take care of it n u'll b arite..nothing too major..im not the biggest fan of domestix, but damn this lil thng is sooo hoT. mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, very light, optional V6, n it looks like a mini ferrari or a morphed crx, depending on whetherb u go with the formula/se or with the GT. someone has fit even a 350 V8 in of them, but it overheated. then he went with a 5.0 liter n it was fine even in rush hour traffic in 112 degree heat. anyway, the the fiero handles like itz on rails, it weighs less than nothing. it looks cool n itz very RARE, so everyone's gonna notice it. it outsold the mr2 (which is also cool) threefold for every year the fiero was sold. im surprised someone like pontiac managed to pull off such a good, unique design, especially in the square-car 80's. pontiac actually brought in a ferrari 308 for comparisons during development for performance n handling. right now for my frst cra, im considering either 94-2001 gen integra, eclipse, u know the cury one not the cutrrent one, cuz i cant afford that newer one, 89-91 240sx ( not the fastback version from 92-94, the one i want iz the coupe version with the regular trunk cuz itz got that classic sports car look), or an 89-91 gen prelude or of course, a fiero formula (V6). i like the 93 to last year's camaro like in red n i like the 80's trans am itz pretty cool. but for pure driving excitement, u hav to go with somethng smaller, lighter, n nimbler. thats wat a sports car is. it has to b light n sporty with good handling n speed. if u want good straight-line acceleration, go with V8 so u can hook it up to get great HP n torque. amazing the fiero will actually take a 5 liter with no problems
. n the beauty is the weight distribution wont b fukt up becuz the engine will still b in the middle. so light weight, n great hyabdling with a hookd up V8, drm come tru

    yes

  4. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

Not at all. I've owned two in the past and they were absolutely amazing cars. I'm actually trying to get another one to replace my MR2. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

  5. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

Are they also hard to find?

  6. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

where i live people sell them all the time

I just want to ask you why. I have a 1989 MR2-SC and I'm sorry, but Fieros, don't even get a chance to catch my license plate. Why would you want to downgrade like that? Not to mention that the Fiero isn't called "The Mid-Engine Disaster" by accident.

  8. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

Not at all. Pontiac actually wanted to make the Fiero able to compete with Corvettes of the time, but because of budget, and economy a 4 cylinder was placed in it. Because the engine in mounted longitudally, a small block V8 can be put in the car quite easily. Many people have done this, and then this car can easily smoke many other V8 cars in a stright line, or on a track, thanks to its mid-engine layout which allows the car to handle amazingly. I have even seen kits on these Fieros to make it look like a Ferrari F40! Definatly not what one should do to it. A V8, yes, Ferrari kit, no. Don't be a poser.

Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

"Was the Fiero a bad car?" This statement is a bit general, but I will try to answer your quetion well.

First off, The fiero WAS a bad car when they first came out. The 1984 model had a very small oil pan capacity so therefore the oil did get dirty real fast. Some Fiero owners decided to prolong the oil changes and therefore the engines got very hot and some even caught fire! This is what people remember most about Fieros.

I own a 1985 Fiero sport coupe and people constantly tell me that my car is a fire risk. It is NOT! General Motors recalled every single Fiero they made and did modification to them so now it is near impossible to buy one that has the "fire hazard". Even if you did find one without the recall, it will still be fine as long as you check and change the oil regularly (and you should also do that with any car).

Another big myth about Fieros is that they are unsafe in an accident. Once again, this is also not true. Fieros have five star front and rear collision safety as well as UNSURPASSED side impact safety. Fieros continue to be one of the safest cars evr built.

Now with those items cleared, 4 Cylinder Fieros are a bit lagging in acceleration, but have excellent handling. I've owned mine since June 3rd 2003 and it is great! I highly recommend one.

But why did GM stop making Fiero models? Well, this has many possible answers. One is that the "fire hazard" scared the public in ever buying one ever again. A second is that the makers of the corvette were getting angry because a V-6 model had the same performance as a 1984 corvette, but a whole lot cheaper. Yet another is that other car manufacturers such as toyota were making the same style of cars as well, limiting the 2 seater sports car buyers.

Hopefully I have answered your question. If you want to see my website go to http://members.cardomain.com/peakster

  11. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

Dude, I just want to tell you that the '80 model MR2's are absolutely horrific. They look like cheap plastic, made to look like some LeMan's supercar or something.

I would much rather own this Fiero than one of those ugly MR2s.

"I just want to ask you why. I have a 1989 MR2-SC and I'm sorry, but Fieros, don't even get a chance to catch my license plate. Why would you want to downgrade like that?" ~Datsun Masterpiece~

I have to agree. I have an '89 MR2 SC and haven't found a Fiero yet who will even race me, I guess they're afraid of it catching on fire. The POS 6 cylinder they put in them just plain sucks! And for all you dorks trying to say that a V-8 Fiero could be a MR2... that's just stupid. Stock VS. Stock, the Fiero doesn't have a chance. Not to mention that if you want to talk about mods... just drop an 3S-GTE from the MR2 Mk2 Turbo and a Fiero V8 falls short of victory once again.

  13. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

For the time, the car was pretty decent. In this time, when power was low, the numbers are okay. A Camaro IROC I belive with a V-8 would hit 60 in about 9.5 seconds, so this car was close to hit. For the time, the car is pretty good.

  14. Re: Was the Fiero a bad car?

Hey Mr2 lovers. The when did toyota put in the supercharger? 88 89? I don't do research on piles of shit. But before the sc where MR2's beating Fieros? i don't think so buddy. If a v6 Fiero had a SC shit that thing would haul ass.

  15. The fiero was a great car Shadow! However, the reputation was marred by the 84 year which as mentioned before, mechanicly failed and threw a rod, cause oil to catch fire. These were recalled, so most 84's are relativly good cars. I wouldn't buy an 84 though, because of the bugs that are naturally found in any new car. Go with 85 or higher, preferably an 88 if possible. I own a six cyclinder, which is a wonderful engine (if taken care of). I wonder about 4cyl. though, having not owned one, i really am not sure. They are a bit more rough than the 6. I know ppl with 300,000 miles on the engine, which is awesome for any car. The possibility for an engine upgrade is VERY optional- V8, V6 upgrades. Most common are: 3.1 small block, 3.4, crate engines, 3800 Chev', 3800 supercharged, Northstar V8's, corvette and camero LT1's, among others. The 2.5 engine has more than enough power..........
    --->MR2 has a 1.8

  16. While the 6cyl 2.8 has a great amount of torque and hp. This car was never built to drag! but can be modded to accomidate this..It was built for taking curves at 3times the recomended speed. VERY FUN TO DRIVE. trunk space is limited to roughly 11 cu Ft., but what the hell do you expect? This is a fun car to DRIVE around town, not haul furniture.

I admit that the MR2 has less cargo room but nicer shape.!!

There i said it the MR2 has something on my car.....ROFLOL
Anyone who tells you that the MR2 is/was much better accomidated to outdue the fiero such as 89 MR2 is a fool.. Pontiac always did there job right, shaming the toyota in most if not all comparisons. The last year the fiero was built, It killed the mr2 through slaloms!! KILLED , outrun it, out styled it, and most importantly, OUT SOLD IT.
If Pontiac had built the legendary 89 Fiero, it would have likely been SuperC'd easily beeting the SC'd L4 in MR2s. GOD has any1 else seen the prototype. /It makes the MR2 look like a pinto. Well I hope you'll consider buying one of these cars, if your not mechanically inclined, they are still orked on, and parts are relativly low for it. Here are some pictures of my car, my baby, First car actually. well i'll end .......

  17. HEy 89 MR2 SC....This one's for you baby!

I wanna see a pic of your car! You talk your ignorant head up so many times that i have to see this emblem of Japan. I've got some friends that laugh at you quite often, who would very much like to race your 4banger 16valve wreck. They think any1 as dumb as you are to back an MR2 is crazy enough to race them. Ofcourse they aren't comming to you, you'll have to drive here to race them. (they don't have enough respect for you.) As for any1 who reads this: MR2 guy + 89MR2SC talk quite often of how pitiful the engine is in my car. No power, piece of crap, and other asorted comments are made. Well.. i really think your all pretty ignorant termigants (look it up

  18. First off, you may know alot about your little fiero, but you've obviously never taken a look at an MR2. The little (1.6L Non-supercharged) engine in the MR2 puts out over 20HP more than the Fiero engine even though it's only 2/3 its size. The only advantage the fiero engine has is another 20 lbs. of torque, which doesn't help it much off the line anyway. I've owned a Fiero SE and I can personally attest to the MR2's greater acceleration and handling... If you like the Fiero for the bodystyle, then I would agree with you, but as for overall performance, I just can't understand why you would choose a inferior car. The Fiero GT stock is slow the the MR2-SC stock, so samething there. Now most of you Fiero fans may very well have hopped up GT's which is fine, I mean of course a V8 is going to take a 1.6L I4, but that's not what we are talking about, we're talking about Stock VS Stock.
