whats the deal?

I agree, the torque number is low. However, this is a common dilema with the rotary engine. You won't find that much contrast in many other japanese engines, if any. The problem is easily overcome with a small turbo (or twin turbo for you rx-7 fanatics) and the gearing more than makes up for it. Besides, this engine will rev to over 10k rpm so your shift points will be significantly higher than those of other (piston powered) cars. The only gear the torque issue really plays that big a role in is 1st, and only for the takeoff. After that you're flyin...

  2. first off i dont want you people to thinkim bashing this car, im not a big sport compact fan but im just making an observation. all these sport compacts are wasting their engines work. they are puttin out 250 hp but only about 140 something lbs ft of torque. why is that. the engine is working too hard for the actual power its puttin out. doesnt amke sense to me.
