British-based MB Roadcars (MBR) successfully launched their EOS supercar at last week’s Top Marques show in Monaco. Designed by a team of ex-F1 employees, the EOS has several distinctive features as well as design hallmarks from other successful supercars.

At first glace, the pre-production mockup is hard to fall in love with (might it be too ahead of its time?). The front intake can be distracting, but that’s because its large intakes are shaped more by necessity than aesthetic value. If the viewer can get beyond the nose, the car has a striking form, and a list of preliminary specifications that will make it one of the fastest machines on the road.

What the new body doesn’t reveal are some impressive traits. For example, the car will come with a central driving position and an engine straight from motor sport.

The car’s advanced aerodynamic shape, with a two-element front wing and side winglets, has been designed using the latest F1 computer-aided-design and computational fluid dynamics. Bonded over a high-strength, carbon fiber tub, this slippery body will keep the kerb weight below 1000kg.

Of major importance was the announcement of an engine supply agreement with Mader Racing, who will develop a road-worthy engine for EOS based on the all-alloy V8 race engine currently used in the GP2 series. Tuned to 500bhp and exclusively badged MBR-V8, this engine will give EOS a remarkable power to weight ratio.

As the latest supercar to hit the scene, MBR seems headed in the right direction. Their preliminary specifications put the car in McLaren F1 territory. Managing Director Michael Blaize hopes to get the static mockup in motion by mid 2006.
