Ferrari SF90 Spider Drag Races A Lucid Air Sapphire

One of today’s most common rivalries involves a head-to-head matchup between a fully electric model and an exotic supercar. Typically, the Tesla Model S Plaid takes the electric side, but this time, MotorTrend’s YouTube channel introduced a twist by pitting the American Lucid Air Sapphire against the Ferrari SF90 Spider in a drag race.

Ferrari employed cutting-edge hybrid technology in the SF90 supercar, featuring a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and a trio of electric motors. The V8 alone generates an impressive 769 hp, a figure sufficient for most supercars. Additional power is provided by the electric motors, contributing 217 hp and resulting in a combined output of 986 hp, approximately 40 hp more than the LaFerrari. This potent power is distributed to all four wheels through a responsive 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Ferrari SF90 Spider stands out for its blinding speed, ranking among the fastest performance cars available today. It boasts an official top speed of 211 mph, but its most remarkable feature is its lightning-fast acceleration. It rockets from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds, reaching 124 mph (200 km/h) just 4.5 seconds later. Additionally, it completes the quarter-mile run in an impressive 10.1 seconds at a blistering 148 mph. Such performance figures were previously reserved for top-tier hypercars.

Conversely, the Lucid Air Sapphire features a fully electric powertrain with three electric motors, resembling the setup found in the Tesla Model S Plaid but with even more horsepower. While the exact number hasn’t been disclosed by the manufacturer, the American electric model boasts over 1,200 horsepower. Lucid claims that it can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in under 2 seconds. However, its relatively high weight, nearly 2.5 tons, limits its dynamic capabilities.
