Major Anthony Peter Roylance Rolt, Military Cross and Bar, had a philosophy. After surviving the Second World War, in which he almost died several times and won two Military Crosses, one of Britainโs highest awards for bravery, he reasoned that the rest of his life would be a bonus. So, he put his bonus to good use by becoming one of the UKโs most successful post-war sports car drivers.
With his friend Duncan Hamilton, Rolt won the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans in a works Jaguar C-Type, but he always disputed Hamiltonโs version of what happened the day before the race.
