VIDEO: Driving Murray’s T.50s Niki Lauda Flat Out

T.50s Niki Lauda track test

The Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s Niki Lauda is a track-only evolution of the T.50 road car, built to deliver pure driving engagement rather than outright lap times. In this Top Gear experience, the car is driven flat-out on a Formula 1–grade circuit, showcasing its extreme performance and visceral character.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.9-liter Cosworth V12 producing 761 hp and revving beyond 12,000 rpm, the T.50s weighs under 900 kg, making it dramatically lighter than many modern hypercars. With aggressive aerodynamics and a constantly running rear fan system, it generates about 1,200 kg of downforce.

The car was designed from the start as a dedicated track machine, separate from the road-going T.50. Gordon Murray’s goal was to create a car that is not only incredibly fast but also approachable and fun to drive, even for drivers operating below the limit. Development focused heavily on stability, brake cooling, and predictable behavior near the edge.
