VIDEO: Ford GT Mk IV Laps Nürburgring in 6:15.977

The Ford GT Mk IV just rewrote the Nürburgring leaderboard

Clocking a 6:15.977 lap, the Ford GT Mk IV secured its place as the third-fastest car ever around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The run also crowned it as the quickest American-built car to lap the circuit, the fastest internal combustion-powered machine on the track, and the fastest purchasable car to achieve such a time.

Classed as a track-only prototype, the Mk IV overtook the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X to claim the American record. Limited to just 67 units, the Mk IV represents the ultimate evolution of the third-generation GT.

Developed in partnership with Multimatic, it pushes performance to extremes with a twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 producing over 800 hp, Adaptive Spool Valve racing suspension, an extended wheelbase, a bespoke gearbox, and a long-tail carbon-fiber body engineered for maximum downforce.

Built with no compromises, the car is entirely focused on track performance. To extract its full potential, Ford enlisted Frédéric Vervisch, a Nürburgring specialist and two-time winner of the 24-hour race (2019, 2022).

The record comes at a symbolic moment, aligning with the 10th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans victory by the modern Ford GT and the 60th anniversary of the GT40 program. Beyond outright speed, Ford highlights how insights gained from demanding circuits like the Nürburgring feed directly into future road car development.
