FOR SALE: 2020 McLaren Speedtail

Number 90 of only 106 examples produced worldwide

The McLaren Speedtail is among the most technically ambitious road cars produced by the British manufacturer, combining hybrid power, advanced aerodynamics, and a distinctive three-seat cockpit in a limited-production hypercar. Conceived as a spiritual successor to the McLaren F1, the Speedtail prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency and maximum velocity over the aggressive aerodynamic appendages typically associated with modern performance cars.

One of just 106 examples produced, this 2020 McLaren Speedtail, identified as number 90, is offered on Bring a Trailer with only 157 miles recorded. Its carbon-fiber body is finished in silver with a black roof over a white-and-blue leather interior, complemented by black 10-spoke wheels, static front carbon-fiber wheel covers, and silver-finished brake calipers.

The Speedtail’s elongated, teardrop-shaped body is central to its pursuit of a claimed 250-mph top speed. Its streamlined profile minimizes aerodynamic resistance, while flexible carbon-fiber rear ailerons adjust to changing driving conditions without requiring a conventional fixed rear wing. Retractable rearview cameras replace traditional mirrors, and fixed carbon-fiber covers over the front wheels help direct airflow around the rotating wheels.

Beneath the bodywork, a carbon-fiber Monocage chassis provides the structural foundation. Hydraulically controlled active suspension uses aluminum components, while carbon-ceramic brakes deliver stopping power. Silver-finished McLaren-branded calipers are supplemented by regenerative braking and the rear ailerons, which contribute additional aerodynamic braking when deployed.

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 paired with a parallel electric motor. The combustion engine produces approximately 723 horsepower, while the electric motor contributes a further 312 horsepower, bringing the combined factory-rated output to 1,035 horsepower and 848 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed Graziano dual-clutch transmission channels this output to the rear wheels, combining rapid gear changes with the powertrain’s hybrid assistance

Inside, the Speedtail draws directly from the McLaren F1 with a three-seat configuration that places the driver centrally, ahead of two passenger seats. This unconventional arrangement distinguishes the hypercar from conventional two-seat supercars and makes the cockpit a central part of its identity.

The electrochromic glass canopy can darken at the driver’s command, while retractable rearview cameras replace conventional exterior mirrors. Flexible carbon-fiber rear ailerons, power-operated dihedral doors, and carefully integrated aerodynamic components further demonstrate the extent of McLaren’s engineering effort.
