Lexus Teases the 2021 IS Sports Sedan

It’s Almost Time

I know the Lexus IS is a far cry from a Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Porsche, but the company made one of the best supercars of all time (the LFA), and its sports sedans are certainly nothing to forget. The Lexus IS is the company’s BMW 3-series competitor. It’s the kind of car that should make big bucks for Lexus so it can do more awesome cars in the future. It should also be quite fun in its own right, at least the new one should be, and Lexus just teased it.

Coming on June 9, the fourth-generation Lexus IS compact luxury sedan should be sharper and more advanced than ever, offering thrilling sports sedan qualities and performance. The car is expected to get a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 making 416 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, according to Carscoops, which is more than enough to move a small executive car with authority. There’s also room for Lexus to upgrade if that’s the engine in the vehicle, not that any small sedan needs more than 416 hp. Personally, I’d love to see the V8 that’s in the LC 500 in there.

Even in the teaser image above you can see the new car will borrow heavily from the LC 500 in the styling department, which is the flagship model for Lexus at the moment. I’ve extolled that car’s virtues before, and I have to say it’s one of the finer cars I’ve driven, especially for the price. It has nothing on the more expensive supercars out there, but the LC 500 is a fantastic grand touring machine, and I would expect this new IS to be a top-quality sports sedan. I’m looking forward to the full reveal.
