Major Anthony Peter Roylance Rolt, Military Cross and Bar, had a philosophy. After surviving the Second World War, in which he almost died several times and won two Military Crosses, one of Britainโ€™s highest awards for bravery, he reasoned that the rest of his life would be a bonus. So, he put his bonus to good use by becoming one of the UKโ€™s most successful post-war sports car drivers.

With his friend Duncan Hamilton, Rolt won the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans in a works Jaguar C-Type, but he always disputed Hamiltonโ€™s version of what happened the day before the race.
