    mario i have no idea of how you think the lightning could take this truck.. i read in a mopar magazine that this truck could make the ford lightning look like gental rain.. chevy and dodge don't have to put supercharges in our cars and trucks just to keep up.. o and by the way it also said that the v10 engine in here is lighter than v8s<!-- Signature -->

    Big engine, big power, that's all there is to it, Chevy and Dodge are putting the lightning to shame, but till they come out in production, the lightning is still the fastest truck, but just wait folks, the Silverado and Ram will kick some major @$$!<!-- Signature -->

    The SS is wasn't designed for speed. The 6.0 Liter V-8 is rated with lower stats as compared to the Lighning or SRT 10. The SS has all wheel drive and seats more people. Chevy didn't even cram their 502 or the older 454 into the 1500 Silverado. The Lighning is the only true contender for the SRT 10. Although it has less horsepower the torque ratings are almost equal. 450 for the Lightning and 500 for the SRT 10. Everyone Looks at the horsepower and not the torque. High speed needs horespower(hence turbos) and accelaration is where torque comes into play. Even Diesel trucks. They have low horsepower but alot of low end torque. For Drag Racing you need mid and high end torque. Trucks were not designed for high top speeds. They can't compete with a Vette, SVT Cobra R, or Viper in top speed. "Muscle Trucks" are built to implant you in your seat, hence the use of superchargers not turbos. To get off the line you need controllable low end torque or you won't get traction. Yes, the SRT 10 would beat the SS and Lightning, but the Lightning is not that far away(about 1 sec).With the difference in price it could take the SRT 10. The main thing is that those who really want a fast truck will make one. Stock the SRT 10 is first hands down, Lightning is second, and the more family friendly SS is last. The SS can carry the whole family and won't be beat by some kid and his stock civic with a body kit.

    Dude, I don't care what you guys say about the ram or the silverado ss the new 2004 lightnings will kill all of them. Its lighter and got 500 hp out of a V8.

    To the man (Aka 12 year old male.) just above me. Is there any REASON you hate Ford? Hm? I've owned multiple cars from every manufacturer and can say with confidence that Ford makes better vehicles than Dodge or Chevy. Why do I say this? My Fords have consistantly lasted me the most miles, I slammed into a cement wall at 45-some mph with my '86 F-150... head on. And that beast started up and drove me 50 miles back home. Yet I do not BASH Chevy and Dodge. They also make damn good cars and trucks.

    And the subject matter of this board changed with the winds, I swear. It's either the concept Lighting getting schooled or it's the current Lightning. This has a big engine in it... whee! The engines efficiency is crap. And as the import craze has proven, repeatedly as they whomp Domestics in sales, is that displacement is FAR from everything. And to say that the Viper engine has limitless possibilities while the Lighting does not is just stupid. The lighting and this have the exact same number of possibilities. Off the bat the Lighting actually has MORE possibilities. Many of my online buddies have bought Lightnings and, right off the showroom floor, replaced actuaters and exhaust parts and gotten the Lightning engine up to 500 torque and 430 HP. But would this beat a current lighting? YES! Talk about an obvious statement! The power output is so much higher and the chassis is so much stiffer it damn well better. And the stats spoken of earlier are un-true. I've seen a stock lightning, save for actuater adjustment and aftermarket intake, do 12.9's in the quarter. And this truck will NOT out-slalom a Porsche 911 Turbo, whoever told you that is on crack dude.

    And the Chevy SS is a mystery. Chevy's changed their story on that thing twice already, so I await the actual release to make any judgements. And this truck will also not be in the same price bracket as the lightning. the Viper engine alone costs over 20 g's. This is gonna be a $50,000+ truck. Well ahead of the target price Ford has for the Lightning. And as such, they will also be in different performance brackets.

    And for Mariano, You've got Turbo's and Supers mixed up. Turbos don't give Horsepower and supers Torque. They do the exact same thing, they force feed air into the engine. Turbos are more efficient, Supers are cheaper and can be easily used on carburated engines. But the Torque and HP levels are governed by other aspects of the engine. And you can drag low torque cars realy easy, just rev the engine into the torque-y part of the powerband.

    Ugh. Talk about a nightmare. It was February a few years back, and I was coming out of a plaza and wanted to make a left. It was two lanes both ways, and some guy in another pick-up came flying our from behnid the line of cars that were stopped to let me out. And hejust headed straight at me. I had to accelerate hard and couldn't turn left into the road because there was a slow moving car right there. My only choice was to go headlong into a cement wall in front of me. It totalled my truck, but I avoided an accident report because only I was involved, which rocked. My record is still clean. I'm now the most paranoid person on earth about taking any left turn. I avoid them like the plague. Haha.

    alright... you're right, this SRT-10 thing is a BEAST of a truck, but... the new 2004 Lightning will have 500hp, 500 lb. tq, and weigh a lil bit less than this hunkin mass of metal... i'd take an '04 lightning over this... (new) lightnings look much better than this... they ARE producing the '04 lightnings, although they say its a concept... they have to wait for Ford to put out the new (UGLY @$$) F-150

    Don't laught at the lightning, did u see the new concept. It could kick the ass of this truck and the chevy's.
