Of course, the Murcielago is going to excel at most things. For that price, one would expect it to. Design, engineering, production, materials all take time and money to put together to form the final product. And that's why most car mags usually compare cars within the same target marget (in terms of price and purpose). Everyone's more on an equal footing, ie. it's more like comparing apples to apples. A Focus vs. Lambo comparo (such as one done by Autocar) is amusing to read, but it ultimately doesn't tell you much. Now, if the Focus were just as fast as the Murcielago, that would be something...

But I guess nobody would ever buy a 200 grand Ford even if it was as fast as a Lamborghini, because then you'd might as well get the lambo, right? (if we forget about insurance and service costs for a moment).

So the mclaren being more expensive doesn't mean it's better. The 800TT has BETTER performance.

And if you go by that, and what MOTOR TREND said in June 2001 "800tt worlds fastest production car" But b/c hennessey is a tuner, ppl don't consider the cars production (but technically they are) "so why is the McLaren the fastest production car then...?" Yes there Was a scam by hennessey, he sold viper parts (that were going to be replaced by Venom parts anyways) But that is Old news, considering now there are two new Venom 1000TTs out. And one of them is now the fastest/quickest street car, running the 1/4 in 8.93 @ 149mph. .02 seconds faster than the Vette 427TT. Re: this v.s mclaren f-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hennessey don't manufacure the 800TT, they take a stock Viper and modifiy it, thats TUNING and it is technically TUNING as well. For a car to be classed as production there has to be over a certain number made, 25 I think, and it has to be their own car, not a modified stock one that another company created. Because Hennessey is a tuner their cars are tuned cars not production cars, you kind of proved yourself wrong. The McLaren F1 IS the fastest production car cos it's the only production car to go over 240Mph, so far. The Callaway Sledghammer goes over 250Mph but thats not the fastes production car, and you know why? cos Callaway are a tuner, and the Sledghammer was a one off anyway.
