2016 Pebble Beach Photos & Summary
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2016 was held Sunday, August 21st in Pebble Beach, California. The 66th annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is the main event of the famed Monterey Classic Car Week.
Originally a small social event paired with a road race through the pine and cypress forests of Pebble Beach, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has grown into the top-ranking collector car competition in the world.
The Concours is not a contest of speed, but of elegance. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style—and the best garner reward and recognition.
The 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance featured the following marques:
- Delahaye
- Chapron Coachwork
- BMW Centennial
- 50th Anniversary of Ford GT40 Victory at Le Mans
- Bizzarrini
- Lamborghini Miura
- Two-Man Indianapolis Race Cars 1930–1937
- BMW Motorcycles
In tandem with the competition between these extraordinary historic automobiles, the Concours is also host to some of the world’s most anticipated concept cars and new car debuts.
This year there were 228 cars from across the globe. As always the judging process at Pebble Beach is detailed and thorough. The first part is based on originality and authenticity, while Honorary Judges direct their attention to design, styling and elegance. To be eligible to win Best of Show — the event’s top award — a car must first win its class.
Best of Show went to 1936 Lancia Asturia Pinin Farina Cabriolet. Nearly sent to the salvage yard as a 26-year old car, this 1936 Lancia Astura Pinin Farina Cabriolet has had one exciting history, topped off of course with winning the top honors at the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This particular vehicle, which once belonged to guitarist Eric Clapton.
