Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder Will Get GT3’s Flat-Six
Recently the Porsche motorsports guys promised that they’d deliver more accessible enthusiast focused sports cars. Clearly the currentย Porsche 911 GT3 with a manual gearbox and the Touring Editionย of the GT3 with less wings and adornments are clear signs Porsche is serious.
The latest rumor courtesy of the folks at Autocar magazine is that Porsche Motorsport is building newย 718 Boxsterย with the naturally-aspirated flat-six engine from theย 911 GT3. We’ve always wanted a Boxster with a more potent engine, so the prospect of a Boxster with the ultimate Porsche engine is a tasty proposition indeed.
Autocarย says the new Boxster Spyderย will be closely related to the newย Cayman GT4ย and will give us Porsche fans what we have always wanted, a real motorsport-derived motor. Let’s imagine for a second what a 493 hp flat six could do to transform the Boxster performance. Yep, it is pretty bloody exciting. Even if they detuned the thingย down to 425hp, that’s still a massive jump and it’s a flat six so it won’t sound like crap like the current turbocharged four cylinder in the Boxster.
