Another new event appeared on the Monterey calendar this year, with the arrival of the โQuailโ featuring a selection of special vehicles from motor racing at Quail Lodge, formerly the home of Concorso Italiano, which has moved to the Black Horse Golf Club at Monterey Bay.
The new event was a bold move by Quail Lodge to host elite cars and motorcycles form the 1930s, โ40s and โ50s. While the crowd for the inaugural โQuailโ was intentionally limited to 2,500 to give it a โlow-keyโ feel, it looks likely to become a calendar feature. Awards for best cars and motorcycles went to six participants, including William Connorโs 1936 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 as the best prewar sports and racing car, with Peter Mullen’s Type 57 SC Bugatti being judged as best representing cars from the Monterey Historics. Connor was also voted Best in Show, winning the Rolex Award.
