New Porsche 911 Turbo S Unveiled

Porsche have just unveiled the latest version of their range-topping Porsche 911 Turbo S model. As the most recent variant in the automaker’s “992.2” roll-out, this iteration of the quintessential and storied Porsche 911 Turbo bloodline is unlike any before it. Please enjoy the official premiere video, embedded below, which goes into depth about the new Turbo S.

For starters, it’s more powerful than everโ€”now boasting 701 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque, to be specific. That’s more or less something we would all expect from a refreshed model. The devil is in the details though, as this is consequentially the result of the Turbo S’ new T-Hybrid configuration which first debuted on the latest Porsche 911 GTS.

Unlike the single turbo setup seen in the aforementioned GTS, at the heart of the Turbo S is the latest dual “e-turbo” technology. Conventionally speaking, two massive turbochargers provide incredible peak power, while the built-in electric motors improve responsiveness at the lower range, essentially eliminating any perceptible levels of so-called “turbo lag”.

All-rounder 911 Sees Improvements All-around

With so much innovation behind its latest reimagination, the new Porsche 911 Turbo Sโ€”which continues to be available in both coupe and cabriolet body stylesโ€”is so much more than just a power bump. The suspension geometry, aerodynamics and all-wheel drive system have been optimized to help make the new car feel just as at-home on the track as it is on the streets. This has allowed the car to set a Nรผrburgring Nordschleife lap time of just 7:03.92. That’s a whopping 14 seconds faster than its predecessor. The in-car video is embedded below.

That puts it in around the same league as the automaker’s most track-focused models, such as the 992 GT3 RS and 718 GT4 RSโ€”of which it is slightly slower and slightly quicker around the ‘Ring, respectively. In and of itself, this lap time not only reveals more about the Porsche sports car hierarchy, but it also offers a preamble into what the upcoming 992 GT2 RS will be capable of. Plenty more to get excited about in the coming days, that’s for sure.
