DRAG RACE: Ferrari 296 GTB vs Lamborghini Temerario

Which is the faster hybrid supercar?

The latest high-performance showdown from carwow placed two of Italy’s most advanced hybrid supercars head-to-head as Mat Watson and his team tested the Lamborghini Temerario against the Ferrari 296 GTB in a series of drag races, rolling accelerations, and braking challenges designed to reveal their real-world performance capabilities.

Representing Lamborghini’s new-generation hybrid philosophy, the Temerario arrives with a formidable powertrain consisting of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 paired with three electric motors. The result is a staggering 920 horsepower and 730 Nm of torque delivered through an all-wheel-drive system.

Opposing it was Ferrari’s highly acclaimed 296 GTB, powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 assisted by an electric motor. Ferrari’s hybrid supercar produces 830 horsepower and 740 Nm of torque, deploying its output exclusively through the rear wheels. Weighing roughly 1.6 tonnes—around 200 kilograms lighter than the Lamborghini—the 296 GTB carries a notable power-to-weight advantage despite its lower horsepower figure.

From the opening standing-start drag race, the contest proved remarkably competitive. The Ferrari’s compact hybrid drivetrain and reduced mass translated into explosive launches and exceptional mid-range pace. In rolling races, the 296 GTB demonstrated why Ferrari’s electrified performance systems have earned widespread praise, delivering relentless acceleration and razor-sharp gearshifts while surging to speeds approaching 182 mph during the half-mile sprint.

Yet the Lamborghini’s technical advantage became increasingly apparent when traction entered the equation. During low-speed rolling starts and repeated drag runs, the Temerario’s all-wheel-drive system consistently converted its 920-horsepower output into forward momentum more effectively, overcoming the Ferrari’s recurring wheelspin limitations. The braking challenge added another layer to the comparison, where the Ferrari leveraged its lighter mass to secure a decisive victory under heavy deceleration.

Ultimately, the results confirmed just how closely matched these hybrid exotics are. The Ferrari 296 GTB impressed with agility, braking, and sophisticated power delivery, but the Lamborghini Temerario claimed overall drag-race honors, completing the standing quarter mile in 9.8 seconds while the Ferrari crossed in a still-impressive 10.1 seconds.
