Set to cross the block at RM Sotheby’s Tegernsee auction on July 4, this exceptional 2009 Ferrari 599XX Evo represents one of the most technologically advanced track-only Ferraris ever created. Estimated to achieve as much as $2.95 million, the car is believed to be approximately the fourth example produced out of just 45 units built, making it one of the earliest and most significant members of Ferrari’s exclusive XX Program.
Developed as the front-engined counterpart to Ferrari’s groundbreaking FXX, the 599XX transformed the already formidable 599 GTB Fiorano into a rolling laboratory for advanced motorsport technologies. Engineers extensively reworked the bodywork, aerodynamics, and mechanical systems, incorporating sophisticated airflow management solutions and extracting substantially more performance from the naturally aspirated 6.0-liter F140C V-12 engine. Output climbed to 720 hp and 506 lb-ft of torque, enabling a blistering 0-60 mph sprint in just 2.9 seconds. Complementing the powertrain were SCM magnetorheological dampers and an advanced traction control system featuring nine adjustable operating modes.
Ferrari pushed the concept even further in 2011 with the introduction of the Evoluzione package. This highly sought-after upgrade elevated output to 740 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque while sharpening acceleration through a shorter final-drive ratio. The Evo specification also introduced a Formula 1-derived drag-reduction system integrated into a redesigned twin-profile rear wing capable of continuously optimizing aerodynamic efficiency by monitoring steering input, throttle position, and vehicle dynamics. Additional enhancements included revised suspension geometry, lightweight side-exit exhausts, and bespoke wheels wrapped in racing slicks.
Chassis 169968 benefits from this coveted Evoluzione conversion, completed in 2012, and remains one of the most desirable examples in existence. Finished in striking Rosso Fuoco and maintained throughout its life by Ferrari’s dedicated XX Programme division, the car has had only two private owners since new. During its active career, it appeared at several prestigious XX Programme events, including the Finali Mondiali at Mugello and Ferrari’s Daytona gathering.
Acquired by its current German owner in 2023, the Ferrari underwent an engine overhaul before returning to the track under the supervision of Ferrari test driver Andrea Bertolini. Its most recent outing took place at Nürburgring in 2024. An official technical assessment issued afterward revealed remarkably low mechanical wear, with only nine percent of the engine’s projected lifespan and 20 percent of gearbox life consumed.
Combining extreme rarity, factory-backed provenance, and cutting-edge engineering, this 599XX Evo stands as one of the ultimate expressions of Ferrari’s track-focused innovation and remains a centerpiece-worthy acquisition for any serious performance car collection.
