Ultra-Rare 2021 McLaren Elva Expected to Bring Up to $1.5 Million at Auction

A rare opportunity to acquire one of McLaren’s most exclusive modern creations will arrive at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction on August 14, where this exceptionally preserved 2021 McLaren Elva is expected to sell for between $1.2 million and $1.5 million. As one of only 149 examples produced worldwide, the Elva represents the British marque’s most uncompromising expression of lightweight engineering and open-air performance.

Built around McLaren’s advanced carbon-fiber Monocell chassis, the Elva holds the distinction of being the lightest road-going model ever produced by the company, tipping the scales at just 2,798 pounds. Unlike conventional convertibles, it eliminates not only the roof but also the windshield and side windows, relying instead on McLaren’s innovative Active Air Management System to redirect airflow over the cockpit. The result is an immersive driving experience that delivers the sensation of an open race car while significantly reducing wind turbulence for occupants.

Power comes from a mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 closely related to the engines found in the McLaren Senna and Senna GTR. Featuring a flat-plane crankshaft, dry-sump lubrication, lightweight internal components, and an optimized titanium and Inconel exhaust system, the engine develops 804 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Paired with launch control, the Elva accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds before reaching a top speed of 203 mph, placing it among the fastest open-cockpit production cars ever built.

This particular example has remained with a single owner since new and had accumulated only 167 miles at the time of cataloging. Originally delivered through McLaren Beverly Hills, it was specified with more than $126,000 in factory options, highlighted by the striking McLaren M1A-inspired livery finished in Vermillion Pearl with Galvanic Grey accents. The exposed carbon-composite bodywork, Satin Raw Metal-finished lightweight forged wheels, and black brake calipers reinforce the model’s motorsport-inspired aesthetic.

Inside, the minimalist cockpit features carbon-fiber detailing, lightweight seats trimmed in Caviar Black Ultrafabric, and contrasting red stitching that complements the exterior color scheme. A copy of the original window sticker accompanies the sale, further enhancing its collector appeal.

With its extremely limited production, virtually delivery-mile condition, and groundbreaking engineering, this 2021 McLaren Elva stands as one of the most desirable modern McLarens ever offered at auction, appealing equally to elite collectors and enthusiasts seeking one of the purest driving experiences available on the road.
