ABT RS5-R turns Audi’s new hybrid sport sedan into a 720-HP limited edition

ABT Sportsline is turning up the heat on Audi’s latest performance hybrid with the new RS5-R, a limited-edition package restricted to just 130 units worldwide. Available for both the RS 5 Sedan and Avant, the upgraded model combines 720 horsepower, aggressive carbon-fiber styling, revised suspension, and 22-inch forged wheels.

The RS5-R is available to order now, with ABT promising a more focused and exclusive take on Audi’s latest high-performance plug-in hybrid.

“A car can be efficient, functional and sensible. For many, that is enough. Not for us,” says Daniel Abt, CMO of the ABT Group. “For us, a car means freedom, goosebumps and a part of your own identity. That is what we built the ABT RS5-R for.”

Hybrid power climbs to 720 HP

At the heart of the RS5-R is Audi’s plug-in hybrid powertrain, combining a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with an electric motor. ABT’s Power S upgrade increases combined output from 639 hp and 608 lb-ft of torque to approximately 720 hp and 667 lb-ft.

The V6 alone now produces around 591 hp and 502 lb-ft, up from 510 hp and 443 lb-ft. That translates to an additional 81 hp and 59 lb-ft of torque for the complete hybrid system.

Top speed remains unchanged from the standard RS 5, but the additional power promises stronger acceleration and more immediate performance. The upgrade is also compatible with the myABT app. All quoted performance figures require 98 RON fuel.

Carbon fiber and a more aggressive stance

The RS5-R makes its intentions clear with a comprehensive aerodynamic package, available in gloss visible carbon fiber or matte Carbon Camouflage. The upgrades include a front spoiler with additional blades, louvres in the front wheel arches, carbon-fiber mirror caps, and redesigned side skirts.

At the rear, a new apron and diffuser give the car a more purposeful appearance. Avant buyers also receive a distinctive rear wing with aerodynamic blades, adding another visual highlight to the wagon’s extended roofline.

The transformation continues underneath, where revised suspension springs lower the ride height while sport anti-roll bars reduce body roll and improve turn-in response.

Filling the wheel arches are 22-inch ABT EVO Performance forged wheels finished in gloss black and wrapped in 315/25 R22 tires.

An interior that highlights its exclusivity

Inside, ABT reinforces the RS5-R’s limited production status with dedicated “1 of 130” badges and matching door-sill trims.

Dinamica microfibre panels add a sportier feel to the center console, dashboard, and seat frames, while the shift paddles receive a carbon finish matching the exterior specification.

Pricing and an 800-HP upgrade on the way

The ABT RS5-R package starts at €62,000 for the Sedan with gloss visible carbon fiber, rising to €65,000 with matte Carbon Camouflage. The Avant costs €65,000 and €68,000, respectively.

Installation is additional, priced at €7,160 for the Sedan and €7,600 for the Avant, with TÜV approval also required. Prices include German VAT but exclude the donor vehicle.

ABT is already planning another round of upgrades for the second quarter of 2027. The planned additions include a more powerful performance package targeting 800 hp and a titanium exhaust system developed by Akrapovič.

“With 130 units, it will remain rare, and with the 800 PS kit and the Akrapovič exhaust system, it will continue to grow with its owners,” Abt says.

For enthusiasts looking for a more exclusive alternative to the standard RS 5, the RS5-R combines a substantial power increase with bespoke styling and chassis upgrades. And with an 800-hp package already in development, ABT is making clear that this limited-edition hybrid has plenty of room to evolve.
