The Maserati MCXtrema represents the Italian marque’s most uncompromising track-focused creation, developed exclusively for closed-circuit use rather than public roads. Limited to just 62 examples worldwide—and already sold out—it was conceived to merge Maserati’s racing heritage with advanced engineering and a distinctly modern design philosophy.
This 2024 example, currently offered on Bring a Trailer, holds particular significance as the first MCXtrema delivered to a private customer. Factory development driver Andrea Bertolini tested the car at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in August 2024 before its handover during Monterey Car Week. Developed under the “Project 24” codename, the MCXtrema shares its carbon-fiber monocoque and fundamental engine architecture with the MC20, while Centro Stile Maserati gave it an extensively redesigned, purpose-built body.
Finished in matte Blu Xtrema with contrasting white graphics, this car carries a #24 livery referencing its Project 24 origins. Exposed carbon fiber features prominently across the splitter, roof, hood scoops, central fin, diffuser, and adjustable rear wing. Dihedral doors, Lexan windows, tow hooks, electrical cut-off switches, and a roof-mounted intake reinforce its competition-oriented character.
At its heart is a heavily revised twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 producing a factory-rated 730 horsepower—109 hp more than the MC20. Revised turbochargers, engine management, and exhaust systems help deliver the additional output, with power transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels through a HÖR Technologie six-speed sequential transaxle and mechanical limited-slip differential.
Its chassis hardware is equally serious. Unequal-length billet-aluminum control arms, adjustable anti-roll bars, and Öhlins four-way dampers provide extensive setup flexibility, while Brembo six-piston front and four-piston rear monobloc calipers clamp floating cast-iron discs. Forged 18-inch OZ Racing center-lock wheels wear Pirelli P Zero slicks.
Inside, the FIA-compliant cockpit features carbon-fiber Sabelt seats, multi-point harnesses, a full roll cage, safety nets, fire suppression, and a carbon-fiber/aluminum steering wheel with ABS and traction-control adjustments plus a 5-inch LCD display. Driver controls also include engine mapping, brake balance, and electric steering settings.
With only 228 kilometers recorded, this MCXtrema combines extraordinary performance, limited production, motorsport-derived engineering, and significant historical importance—qualities that make it not merely an extreme track car, but a compelling future collector’s piece.
