Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Breaks Nurburgring Lap Record

The World’s Fastest Series Production Car

If you’re looking for the faster series production car out there, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is for you. The vehicle just set a new production road car lap record at the racetrack.

The time for the car was 6:43.616. That time was set by GT3 driver Maro Engel. The time makes the new Merc quicker than the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which managed to do that lap in 6:44.97.

EVO notes that the Manthey-Racing Porsche 911 GT2 MR’s time of 6:40.3 that was set in 2018 has been largely discounted due to the fact that the car has third-party upgrades. It’s still stupid-fast, but if you want a true production car, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the car to get.

The car did it with what Mercedes says was a completely standard setup. The car was as it is from the factory. That’s not to say there wasn’t some fine-tuning. The adjustable front splitter was extended to “Race” and the rear spoiler was set to the middle position for a good balance of downforce and drag.

The suspension was dropped by 5mm upfront and 3mm in the rear and the rear camber was set to the maximum negative for lateral grip. The car’s adjustable anti-roll bars were also set to the highest setting and traction control was dialed in for Margo Engel. The car ran Michelin Pilot Sport Cut 2 R MO tires.

You can watch the lap below.
