The introduction of the GranCabrio – the Trident's third prong – completes Maserati's product line-up that now consists of three different families of models: Quattroporte, GranTurismo, GranCabrio.

15 February 2006 - To celebrate winning the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers' Cup, Maserati has launched a new limited edition model of the GranSport. The MC Victory edition will be officially unveiled at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, and will be on sale from May, with only 180 individually numbered units being produced.

To keep pace with the competition, Maserati designed progressively more powerful cars leading up to late fifties. The 450S, produced from 1956 forward, marked the end of this trend. Having a complex V8 that produced 400 horsepower, it was the most powerful sports car of its time.

The Tipo 63 took Maserati’s sports racecar from Birdcage to Supercage. That is, from a front-engine, four-banger into a screaming sports racer with a V12 behind the driver. This transition took place over the 1961 season with rapid development that often changed specification from race to race. After preparing and racing three nearly identical Type 151s at the 1962 LeMans, Maserati continually and radically refined the prototype '002' for Johnny Simone's Maserati France team. Like its predecessors, the 151/2 and 151/3 used a large, front mounted V8 engine supported by a ladder frame chasis design that was a simple recipe for LeMans.
