Saleen Performance Vehicles today unveiled its first 2010 product, the Saleen 435S, based on the new 2010 Ford Mustang. The introduction took place as part of the Special Vehicle Team Owners Association's annual "Mustang Week" event. When it went on sale in 2002, the S7 was the only street-legal car in the U.S. with more than 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. The media and S7 owners have raved about the car and it has been recognized by numerous automotive magazines as the fastest American car in the world.

Compared to the tuning programs Saleen has been developing for the past two decades, their S281 Mustang is the most radical. Having a custom suspension, longer wheelbase and patented supercharger, Saleen calls it 'all-new'.

In 2001, Saleen debuted their S7 supercar at the 2001 Monterey Historic Races and subsequently at the Pebble Beach Concours. This was the very first completed S7 and was made by Ray Mallock Ltd, who did most of the engineering and design for the car in the UK.

Not long after Saleen announced the S7 supercar in 2001, they debuted the racing version. Called the S7R, these were initially built by Ray Mallock Limited RML in the UK. They were initially raced by customers, RML and Saleen in the European Le Mans Series, Grand American Road Racing Championship and the American Le Mans Series.

In 2001, Steve Saleen embarked on his most ambitious program and debuted the Saleen S7 at the Monterey Historic Races. It was his first separate car that wasn't derived from a Mustang and was entirely new. With a mid-mounted V8 and stylish carbon fiber body, the S7 was one of the few supercars produced in America, and Saleen claimed it was the only car being sold in America with power 500 bhp.
