1988→1992 Maserati 422
The 422 was introduced in 1988 in replacement of the 420. In fact, it replaced all previous versions of the 420 family at one fell swoop, including the 420Si which gave it its mechanicals.
The model name can be interpreted as follows: the 4 stands for four doors, the first 2 designates the use of a 2.0-litre engine, whilst the second 2 refers to double overhead camshafts, but also indicates that this was the second series of the model.
The car was lightly restyled, mainly with a rounder front grille chrome surround, new rearview mirrors and 5-bolt alloy wheels. Logically, the performances were in line with those of the 420Si.
Production reached 978 units in four years.
