Re: DOMESTIC VS IMPORTS

  1. You do realize that the only way the Skyline gets that much horse power out of an inline 6 (which is the acual configuaration and not the V8 like you said) is that it uses forced induction. Thats right, that inline 6 gets all that horse power from its twin turbos. Now go back and look at what happens when you put twin turbos on a Viper. You get a car that does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 9.98 seconds. See domestic cars don't usually use turbos like most Japanese cars do (Lamborginis, Ferrais, and BMWs don't either) so those big engines are there for a reason. I am not making fun of Japanese cars, or saying they are infirior. All I am saying is that they use a different technique to get their horse power and it shouldn't be confused with advanced enginering.

  2. One more thing, irony has nothing to do with it.

  3. course they make insane numbers........ then they blow up. turbocharged vipers are some of the most costly cars ever. N/A cars are not DESIGNED to take that much horsepower, however a skyline with proper mods can make 800 hp easy and there's more than just a handful of skylines pushing 1200hp..... lets see a viper do that. bhp/l counts... ESPECIALLY if you top it out

  4. lol ok the skyline i bet you all didnt know it but its actually a rear wheel drive and when it loses traction it changes to AWD didnt know that? yea i thought so. and the skylines design is made for top performance thats why nissan went for a Inline 6 and i bet you didnt know that it is proven that a inline6 engine is hte best engine to have for performance and it gives the skyline better handling.... american cars are not designed to fit turbos to make power cuz they are N/A cars. thats why you cant get much from the car when its has turbo in it same with lots of european cars. and for the inline 6 engines thats why the skyline and hte supra is known as one of the best handling cars in the world. and plus the NSX thing well thats an american fuc.ked up NSX japanese NSX are alot better the top models in japan are the Type S Zero and the Type R they both run 12's.

  5. You guys talk about forced induction like it is a bad thing,I'd much rather a lightweight twin turbo RX-7 than say a Viper. You could take the money you have left and enlarge the turbos and intercooler, and kill a Viper(and it's big engine).Don't get me wrong,I love the Viper, it is the true epitemy of a AMERICAN SPORTSCAR,and it has the cubes to prove it.The RX-7(and Skyline)are the epitemy of the JAPANESE SPORTSCAR.Are you guys starting to get it now?Can Dodge build a more efficient Viper? Hell Yeah, but it would'nt be the same, it would'nt reflect the musclecar past, that people...erhh,Americans (some of us)want,it has lots of power, torque, and of course cubic inches. And Mazda,Nissan,Toyota, and Honda, build they're cars towards what the people in there home market want.(relatively)small, agile, and powerfull cars, that are also very efficient, using all of there liters to the max, with the aid of (in some cases) forced induction.Domestics&Imports make power, just in different ways ,fast is fast no matter if your in a Skyline or a Vette.and thats just how it is .

P.S:v0locity was talking about the GTR35 which does have a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 producing 450h.p.

  6. the thing that really bugs me about all fo the kids today is the lack of knowledge of their cars. All of the kids today take their car to a dealer and tell the mto slap on a turbo and lay down $1500 dollars. Nobody knows how to rebuild a skyline engine or a nsx engine. I could rebuild a LS6 corvette zo6 with my eyes closed. "a skyline with proper mods can easily make 800 hp" well sure if get the boost pressure high enough it can have a 1000 HP, for a week and then the rings go (if you guys know what those are). A new 528 hemi from mopar makes 740 Hp while being NA. without any mods. without NOS. just plain old V8 PUSHROD power.I am an avid reader of HOT ROD magazine and i read every word of every magazine. and what is it with all of these kids that think that NOS is the answer. you get 15 seconds of a little more HP. I had a friend that ran a 9.99 @ 162 in a STOCK 1971 440 Hemi Baracuda. I will continue later as i have to go.

  7. lol yes the rings would fry after a lil while making 1000hp. thats why drivers try to keep the bost down at normal driving and race it with high boost when needed

  8. where do I start....Tuscani...thank your for what you said

and holy smoking shit....528...does that mean 528 CI?...that is like frgging 9.0L ...shit that is a friggin huge engine.....that isn't hard to get 740 HP out of.....no wonder...

there are turbo 1.8L engines running that kind of HP ...
Rod Millens Pikes Peak Celica runs 1000HP with no NOS...out of 2.1L turbo....that is about 1/4 - 1/5 the displacement of your Mopar motor.
And for NA...Lambos new car produces 580 HP from 6.0L

and I know that engine isn't road legal...there is no way..

gun who cares if you can't rebuild a NSX engine...what does that mean...there are mechanics that can do that...I can rebuild a civic engine....but not a Lexus engine...but my brother can he is a class 1 mechanic for Lexus....

I am not bashing you...but I am saying that ALot of forign cars have much much more efficient engines....Honestly there isn't any American car that I can think of that can boast 100 HP\L

  9. Just to make it clear, I have no problems with forced induction. The only problem I have is with people who go around saying that Nissan can get 450 hp out of an inline six (or V8) and fail to acknowledge the twin turbos. It is these turbos that seperate the Skyline and the RX-7 from all the other cars out there. Some companies, like Honda and BMW, don't use forced induction and can get 290 (NSX) and 333 (M3) out of six cylinder engines. I respect these cars because they really push the limits of what smaller engines can do. If you put turbos on either of these cars you would get excelent performence. Turbo and super chargers are an excellent way to add horse power with out weight. As far as the Viper goes, I was refering to the Venom 800TT. I have heard nothing about this car blowing up.

  10. Why dosent America export thier cars? because they suck and no one in other countries wants them!<!-- Signature -->

  11. And the NSX loses to the Viper in the racing world. Look at SCCA and American LeMans and endurance racing in general.

And it most definitly does not run a 12.5 stock. More like 13.4 at sea level. The Viper will top this at 12.1 at sea level, so maybe the low HP/Litre Viper will kill the high HP/Litre NSX for less. Thats the point of many American cars. Its about what you want in a car, not which country makes the best. There is no clear way to define that.<!-- Signature -->

  12. BWAHAHAHAHAHA HP per liter, what a #$%#ing joke, the guy that posted this thread is a full blown ricer, I love his statements about the NSX running 12's. Too bad in Japan they don't race on full 1/4 mile tracks, jack off. How about this one, it was posted in the newest Road & Track, it stated that Honda = Big Fat Stinky Shit!!!

  14. Well i agree with what most people are saying although they are fairly biased not all but some. I'm sure you can tell by my name which side i would lean as i own a 2001 honda prelude SE now it only makes about 200hp until i get the forced induction. For me this is the only way to go and the best way for me to make power yay me. Now if i had an old mustang or a domestic which my older brother does i would probably take his route and get it tuned up and put whatever hes going to put on it. Ya see all cars are the same just the markets are different no one is gonna by a viper unless it sounds like a viper and no one is gonna by a honda unless you can mod it to the nutts. Two different options for two different markets but i would just like to say how you get the power doesn't matter add cubic inches or add forced induction all you are doing with both is increasing air flow and increasing power and we can all say praise to that can't we. And i know this is going to offend the import lovers of which i am but mechanically speaking larger engines while not the most efficient on gas are when it comes to heat because lager surface area to dicipate it means the stock engine parts will last longer under high stress, but that doesn't matter because import lovers always change the stock engine parts for ones that will handle more lodes or they will fail.
    well thats my two cents

  15. i just thought i would add the point of posting 1/4 mile times should be regarded the same as hp/l because its inaccurate and it varies. Most 1/4 times are avergaes of a certain number of runs so that means the car is capable of faster times and slower times and even if they posted the fastest 1/4 mile for a car, people often forget that the driver drives the car so no matter how fast the car the driver has to be just as quick or a 12 second car could be a 14.

actually a skyline makes about 70% of its power from natural aspiration alone. those turbos only boost about half of atmospheric pressure. so what happens when the boost is cranked up? you get cars 1000hp that do 0-60 in 2.7 just like a dodge viper, but also slaughter on race tracks.

and what is wrong with forced induction? why have 830lbs of viper engine when you could have 200lb engine making the same power and torque?

  17. HP/L is just one way a car can be fun fun adding cubic inches makes it fun too... has nothing to do with anything

  18. i like american cars, well some of them maybe, like vette ,viper and all those high power machine out there, but as a whole, i hate american cars. let's look at chev, they got ABSOLUTELY nothing good enough that can actually be call a car except vette. so if u really want a good american car u need at least something liek 30k or so, but imports offer great range of selection, u can get a pretty nice sedan, or coupe for under 20k. and u have even a wider selection of car that's above 30k that kick asses, so domestic really needs alot of stronger middle class cars. if i give u the choice between a focus or civic, what would u go for, i will for sure go for civic, for the same price i can get it in 2 door coupe version, without focus's shit look and the fact that i can easily power up my civic anytime i want. and for focus, well, it looks gay no matter what. so even if all domestics like vette viper etc are THE BEST cars out there, domestic still can't beat import, since imports have all the other field covered.
and yea, again all domestic cars are shitty lookin unless we are talking about cars that's like 30 k and up. end of my story

  19. i agree with that most domestic car companies need a stronger mid range car, but this site isn't about mid ranged cars so we compare them as close as possible. but it would be nice to see the domestics get more competitive in the mid ranged tuner area also styling i think needs a boost in the mid ranged domestic market. i would love to drive a car as fast as the new neon r/t for the price but the styling needs a lot of work.

  20. I see that area 20K-35K being filled in by many cars, most not American. The Razor concpet did not make it:( That would have been my first sports car someday. But the SRT-4, which is capable of the same performance with the same engine (though its a FF) is coming out. The Mustangs and Camaros cover pretty well from about 25K to 37K in their various V8 iterations, but that is really it untill you hit Vette terratory, then Viper terratory. Eventually the GT-40 will come in probably a littlemore than the Viper. I hope it will be the fastest thing out of the Big three. Ford really needs something like that. But with the new Z, the STI, the Evo, aparently the Elise, the RX-8 , and maybe some stuff I am forgeting, there will be a very tight market out there. Fine by me, competition is the driving force of capitalism, which means good for consumers. Hopefully piss poor ones like me<IMG SRC="http://www.supercars.net/servlets/cMsg/html/emoticons/smile.gif">. I wish this was still around. I think the US will be better of for the void getting filled, by domestics or not.<!-- Signature -->

  21. Just one thing. The reason all of us true americans buy american cars is because they are just faster. Period. Why start with a Honda Prelude that does the 1/4 in like 17 or 18 seconds when for about the same price you could get a Camaro Z28 that does the 1/4 in the mid 13s? If you start with a faster car you end with a faster car.<!-- Signature -->

  22. Whoa V-technician
The GT2 gets about 13MPG. Or so it says on this site, maybe thats wrong, but I doubt it. That car is all about performance, I bet it runs about 800cc injectors.
And yeah, the SRT-4 is ugly. Better than the reg Neon, but still bad. The Razor, where the engine debuted was such a great latform, I am still stinging from that concept never making it. It was going to have about the same power as the SRT-4, but it would have been a rear driver. Best car under 20K I had seen in awhile.<!-- Signature -->

  23. i think the 22 mpg was on the highway...
the part about an american inventing mass production - yes, that's true...but it is a huge step from inventing the automobile, which wasn't american...
and toonediroc, as i'm sure you've heard very often but keep ignoring, the quarter-mile isn't everything!

  24. seems this is a bit of a myth. i watched a australian GT race on tv just the other night, it was won by a lambo, a 360 modena and a couple of NSXs. It seems all the vipers could do was follow around at the back of the pack.
I've heard alot of people (especially on the net) raving about how vipers are so great on the track and will kick car x but i've yet to see it. I've always been disappointed at actual races, theres the ocasionally viper win in a sports car race but if there is a lambo in the pack it steals the priveledge from the ferraris with moping the floor with vipers.
it seems viper engines only make decent output because of their shear size, when talking specific power a 1984 ford escort engine has better figures.
I drive a jap import with alot more torque than a viper and it didn't cost me a quarter of the price of a new viper, infact cheaper than alot of new cars.

  25. 944turb0, Ford exports cars. They have a whole European division. VenomGTR, like I said before I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST FORCED INDUCTION!!! Forced induction is perfectly fine with me. All I was saying was that people neglect the fact that a car uses forced induction when they compare one engine to another. That was all.
