Re: World's best car?
one of my favourite ferraris of all time
This is the platonic ideal of the front-engined GT car. Don't just look at the numbers, look at the setup. It's fairly traditional in terms of chassis, and suspension, with a normally aspirated V12 with 6-dueces. The key is that Ferrari took those elements and made a greater car in that idiom than anyone has ever done before or since.
Also, the styling is spot-on perfect. There are some great replicas out there, mostly built on Ferrari 330 chassis, but they never look quite as good as the original
your just a newbie new member rating so whats your point
change the 1962 to 1964 and I agree <A BORDER="0" HREF="http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?displayFAQ=y"><IMG BORDER="0" SRC="pitlane/emoticons/smile.gif"></A>
best of it's time no doubt, but ever?
If best = the icon, then yes, without a doubt. But best driver? Maybe if you drive it for fun and ignore the numbers... still a good reason, though it's a subjective one. I obviously don't know anything about that because I havne't driven it. Best look? Arguably, but still subjective. To me, there can be no "best look" because there are so many different themes and influences; era creates function and function creates form. But this car has a great aesthetic appeal. But if all you see is it's numbers, then no. LRP Gearhead, you hit the nail right on the head.
FACT: when put on a rolling road, the GTO only produces 270bhp tops. The 302 figure is a factory one and is exaggerated.
Best car of its era without question. Best car ever? Debate-able. It's probably the best looking car ever, and its certainly one of the best sounding cars ever. I guess it depends on what it feels like to drive... I've heard it's amazing, but that's the kind of thing you can only judge from behind the wheel. I'm talking about throttle response, steering feel, turn-in, gear change feel, etc. The things that make a good driver's car.
