The arrival of the all-new Lamborghini Temerario marks a significant turning point for Lamborghini, replacing the naturally aspirated V10 era with an advanced hybridized twin-turbo V8 powertrain. To discover whether Sant’Agata’s newest creation has what it takes to challenge the established hybrid supercar benchmark, carwow’s Mat Watson lined it up against the formidable Ferrari SF90 Stradale in a series of quarter-mile, half-mile, and rolling acceleration tests.
On paper, the matchup is fascinating. Both machines employ sophisticated hybrid systems built around a twin-turbocharged V8 and three electric motors. The Temerario delivers a combined 920 horsepower, while the SF90 counters with an even 1,000 horsepower. Although the Ferrari has a clear advantage in outright output, it also occupies a higher segment and carries a significantly higher price tag.
The opening standing-start quarter-mile race immediately showcased the Temerario’s impressive launch capability. Watson managed to get the Lamborghini off the line cleanly, allowing it to hold off the Ferrari’s late charge and secure an early victory. The result highlighted just how effectively Lamborghini’s new hybrid drivetrain can deploy its power despite giving away 80 horsepower to its Italian rival.
Once the action shifted to rolling races, however, the Ferrari began to demonstrate why it remains one of the quickest road cars ever produced. From highway speeds, the SF90’s relentless acceleration and lightning-fast transmission responses enabled it to pull away from the Lamborghini with surprising authority. The Ferrari’s hybrid system delivered seamless bursts of torque, allowing it to build speed at an astonishing rate during half-mile runs.
The drag-race battle itself evolved into a closely fought contest, with both supercars trading victories depending on launch quality and traction. The Temerario repeatedly proved capable of matching the Ferrari through the early stages of acceleration, but the SF90’s superior power and efficiency eventually tipped the balance in its favor during the decisive runs.
When the dust settled, the Ferrari emerged victorious. The SF90 completed the standing quarter-mile in an impressive 9.7 seconds, narrowly edging out the Lamborghini Temerario, which crossed the line in 9.8 seconds.
While the Ferrari retained its crown, the real story was how close the contest proved to be. For Lamborghini’s new entry-level supercar to run within a tenth of a second of one of the world’s fastest hybrid exotics underscores just how significant a leap forward the Temerario represents.
