Originality cannot be recreated. Once it is lost, it is gone forever.
That philosophy sits at the heart of Only Original Once, an extraordinary collaboration between CURATED and RM Sotheby’s bringing four exceptionally preserved Lamborghini road cars to public auction during Monterey Car Week 2026.
Spanning more than three decades of Lamborghini history, the collection traces the evolution of the marque from the dramatic Countach LP400 S through the Diablo and into the Murciélago era. Yet while each car is rare in its own right, it is their remarkable originality, provenance and preservation that truly sets them apart.
All four Lamborghinis are being offered publicly for the first time, creating an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire cars that have remained remarkably untouched since leaving the factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce
Perhaps the ultimate modern-day “ghost car” of the collection is this 2010 Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce.
A one-owner example that has remained virtually unknown among collectors, the car had accumulated just 791 miles at the time of cataloguing. It is one of only three U.S.-market LP 670-4 SVs specified with Lamborghini’s desirable low-drag “High Speed” rear wing and is believed to be one of only eight U.S.-market examples finished in Nero Aldebaran.
Its remarkable specification is complemented by an equally impressive level of completeness. The original books, tools, documentation and window sticker all accompany the car, reinforcing its status as one of the most original Murciélago SVs ever offered publicly.
2003 Lamborghini Murciélago 40th Anniversary
Celebrating four decades of Lamborghini, the Murciélago 40th Anniversary was limited to just 50 examples worldwide.
This particular car was delivered new to the President of Lamborghini Toronto, who retained ownership until 2020. Finished in the special-edition Verde Artemis, it features exposed carbon-fiber details and the distinctive asymmetric interior created for the anniversary model.
With approximately 6,700 miles at the time of cataloguing, it is believed to rank among the lowest-mileage examples remaining in North America. Underneath its distinctive anniversary specification sits Lamborghini’s 6.2-liter V12, paired with one of the most desirable features of the early Murciélago: a six-speed manual transmission.
As one of just 50 examples produced, combined with its exceptional provenance and preservation, this 40th Anniversary Murciélago represents one of the most collectible versions of Lamborghini’s first all-new V12 of the modern era.
1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S Series I by Bertone
The oldest and arguably most historically significant car in the collection is a 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S Series I.
Only 50 examples of the first-series LP400 S were produced, making this car exceptionally rare even before considering its condition. At the time of cataloguing, it had covered just 1,803 kilometers, approximately 1,121 miles.
More importantly, it retains an astonishing degree of factory originality. Its original paint, interior, Pirelli P7 tires and European-specification bumpers have all survived intact. It is believed to be the most original and least-driven first-series Countach ever offered publicly, making it an extraordinary reference point for collectors interested in preservation rather than restoration.
Few cars better demonstrate the philosophy behind Only Original Once. Every mark, material and detail represents the car’s history—and cannot simply be recreated once removed.
1991 Lamborghini Diablo
Completing the quartet is an exceptionally preserved 1991 Lamborghini Diablo finished in Bianco over Champagne.
One of only six closed-roof examples produced in this particularly rare specification, the Diablo had covered just 1,349 kilometers, or approximately 838 miles, at the time of cataloguing.
Having spent many years within an important Canadian collection, it retains its original factory paint and interior and presents as an extraordinary time capsule of Lamborghini’s early 1990s flagship.
The Diablo represented a defining moment for Lamborghini, replacing the Countach while retaining the dramatic wedge-shaped philosophy that had become synonymous with the marque. This particular example offers collectors the opportunity to experience that design and engineering exactly as it emerged from Sant’Agata more than three decades ago.
Originality as the ultimate collectible
“Originality is the one thing that can never be recreated,” said John Temerian, co-founder of CURATED. “Anyone can restore a Lamborghini. No one can make it original again.”
That philosophy perfectly captures what makes the four cars so compelling.
For decades, restoration has often been regarded as the ultimate expression of care within the collector-car world. Increasingly, however, the market has begun to recognize that an untouched survivor can possess something a restored car can never truly regain: its uninterrupted history. Factory finishes, original interiors, period-correct components, untouched details and even the evidence of careful use collectively tell a story that restoration inevitably erases.
The four Lamborghinis assembled for Only Original Once therefore represent more than four rare cars. They are preserved snapshots of Lamborghini history.
From the Countach that established the ultimate wedge-shaped supercar template, through the Diablo that carried the formula into the 1990s, to the Murciélago and its increasingly extreme SV derivative, the collection documents a remarkable period in the history of the V12 Lamborghini. Each car has survived with its identity intact. And that may ultimately be what makes them irreplaceable.
The CURATED x RM Sotheby’s Only Original Once collection will be offered during the RM Sotheby’s Monterey Auction on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as part of Monterey Car Week. The four Lamborghinis will be available for preview from Wednesday at the Portola Hotel and Monterey Conference Centre.
