Set to cross the block at Bonhams Cars’ Laguna Seca Auction on August 13, this exceptionally rare 2000 Lamborghini Diablo GT represents one of the most coveted collector cars of the modern supercar era. With an estimate of up to $2.6 million, the offering is number 74 from a production run limited to just 80 examples, making it one of the rarest road-going Lamborghinis ever built.
Introduced at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the Diablo GT was conceived as a homologation-inspired evolution of the standard Diablo, blending race-bred engineering with road legality. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 producing 575 horsepower at 7,300 rpm, paired with a five-speed manual transmission that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.
Unlike the all-wheel-drive Diablo VT, the GT prioritized purity and driver engagement, relying on rear-wheel drive, minimal electronic intervention, and a lightweight construction to deliver an uncompromising driving experience.
Extensive use of carbon fiber throughout the body, combined with a stripped-down interior, reduced overall weight by more than 70 kilograms. Functional aerodynamic elements—including widened bodywork, a roof-mounted ram-air intake, NACA ducts, a prominent rear diffuser, and a fixed carbon-fiber rear wing—were inspired by contemporary GT2 race cars. The result was breathtaking performance, with a 0–62 mph sprint in approximately 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 215 mph, making it the most extreme production Diablo ever built.
Finished in the rare Black Rage exterior over an equally uncommon Nero leather interior accented with carbon-fiber trim, this example has accumulated approximately 14,208 kilometers. The car has remained with the same owner since 2007, carries a U.S. title, and has been meticulously maintained by renowned Lamborghini specialist Steve Gleanor of Driven Exotics. The clutch was replaced at approximately 12,225 kilometers, reflecting attentive long-term ownership.
Included with the sale are several highly desirable factory accessories, including the original Lamborghini leather briefcase, owner’s manual, service documentation, OEM leather tool kit, one key with remote, installed racing harnesses, and an optional backup camera.
