In between the subtlety of the 1955 and flamboyant 1957 models if the 1956 Bel Air. It embodies the radical stepwise design of both these years. The 1956 model had a lighter appearance. Inside, the dash retained the dual cowl look, but now the mesh matched that of the front grille. Chevy also proved to the world that their full-size cars were not just rolling sculptures by setting new speed records and winning races.

1956 Pontiac Bel Air Convertible - did not sell for $66,000 This Bel Air Convertible was fitted from the factory with power steering, power brakes, power windows, a power front seat, heater, defroster, Wonderbar AM radio, twin spotlights, whitewall tires and a chrome-plated tissue dispenser. Under the bonnet is a 'Power Pack' V8 engine mated to a Powerglide automatic.
