Im sure most of you have already heard the song Thriftshop

Its a fun song, clever lyrics and arguably a pretty good message about not spending your money on stupid shit like Tshirts. Nothing to write home about though, kinda LMFAO type song.

But I looked a bit into this guy, and I was really impressed by his other songs. I thought I'd find just a bunch of cheesy shit but instead most his music is very poignant and meaningful.

Favorite so far is this one about same sex marriage and the portrayal of homosexuals in the media; specifically how homosexuals are treated by the hip hop music genre.

Close second is about loss from substance abuse, with a strong emphasis on how hip hop artists glorify this lifestyle. (see a trend yet?)

might want to read along to the lyrics with this one, every line is great.

This is pretty weird for me because I typically don't like hip hop or rap, probably for the same reasons that motivate many of his song...

Macklemore rules. He's also a local boy. Went to the same high school as a bunch of my friends and graduated a year before I did. Several of them were friends with him back then and all that.

The Heist has been getting solid airplay around here for like five months. It's really solid through and through, but I thought it was probably too weird to make it that big. Shows what I know about music, I guess.

EDIT: Also, the music video for thrift shop was filmed at a bunch of local bars and stuff. The weird looking place everyone parties in is where I had my birthday party a year prior, haha

He's dope, I found the album was kind of hit and miss, but he's still better than most of the other artists ruling the demographic he's most popular with.

I knew Macklemore from a couple featured verses like this one:

I read an article saying that he's the first unsigned artist in over a decade to hit #1 on the U.S. charts. His songs are pretty alright, imo.
