Yeah, I'm that bad with electricity Before it used to work perfectly, but we want a dimming switch in the dining room. (the saloon light too used to work perfectly) So I buy THAT dimmer switch (P996turbo made) and try to hook it up. Problem is the following, however I wire it, I have either of the following issue: - dining room light not working at all, saloon light working - dining room light working fine, saloon light not working - nothing works on both side I mean, wtf? I really think I'm missing something obvious here. Help.
dimmer should only need 2 wires, not 3, so unless its earthed for some reason, or has some other fancy stuff on the dimmer the red wire is your feed, so it goes onto one of the black wires on the dimmer. the other 2 black wires (as per pic) would be the swith wire, so both of those need to be connected to the other black wire donno wtf ur green wire is on the dimmer. if it has ligths or something on it it needs a nuetral, but green is normally earth
ugh, the 2 black one? I was assuming it was doe internally in the new switch, since we don't do it on the outside like the old one
green is indeed the ground as per the manual (ugh) that's how I got it plugged right now, and it works for the dining room (saloon still dead). Red -> second black topblack -> green bottomblack -> first black when I put the red on the other black, the saloon is live but not the dining room. #$%# me.
cut the green away unless u have an earth. both the blacks (these go to the lights) need to connect to one of the blacks on the dimmer, the red (comes from switchboad to the other black. (disregard my colours, its just to make it easier to tell them apart)
can I connect the 3 blacks together (lol) with one single plastic "cone" (you know the plastic cap you use to connect 2 copper wires together) ? http://www.rapidonline.com/netalogue/zoomed/Large/M067828W01.jpg
yeah, that will work (they are shit but, screw connectors work better) will u still be using the switch also?
ok I'll try that after dinner. yeah I'll try with the dimmer switch and let you know. thanks for helping out
haha it works, holy shit thanks Aaron, I love you Very appreciated.
2 years as an electrician u get to knwo stuff about electricity i donno WTF it has an earth for, unless its mounted onto a metal plate or something. if its all plastic u cant get zapped
plastic casing unto a metal plate for screwing into the wallmount (whic has different screw hole patters )
I don't know about down there, but just about anything that gets its power from a junction box will come with a ground.
