The drivers were enable to speed each other.
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? Everything aside, it just goes to show you that even though the M5 engine can be a lot more powerfull, it's a crazy engine at its current state.
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? Remember that the two were designed with completely different goals. The M5 is an executive express most at home on the autobahns of Germany cruising at 180+ km/h. The M3 has always been the bad-boy racer, although it's softened with every generation, in my opinion. There's a huge weight difference. Most importantly the M3 runs the BEST six-cylinder mill in the world, but it's a high-strung 3.2 liter, where the M5 has a comparatively lazy 5 liter V8. By definition the two cars' characters will differ widely.<!-- Signature -->
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? HA!Lazy V8, now i think that thats bullshit! Explai how the M5s V8 is LAZY!Stupid boy! That things a beast if it can hammer 1.8 tonnes to 100Km/h in just 4.8 seconds with only 400Bhp...go back to your hole!<!-- Signature -->
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? It's "lazy", as he put it, because it's putting out 394 horsepower out of a 4.9 liter V8. He's not calling it lazy because he dislikes it, he's calling it lazy because BMW very easily could, and will, get more power out of that engine. That engine, as it sits in the M5 stock, is just cruising along, not really putting out as much effort as it could be. So before you start calling names, perhaps you should make sure someone is being derogatory.<!-- Signature -->
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? the m5 v8 is only lazy by bmw standards. lets not forget that this is a luxury sudan that can hang with v8 ferrari's and others. this is probably the most efficient v8 in the world. sure bmw will be able to push a lot more out of this engine than any other company but by no means is this v8 lazy
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? I love it when someone agrees with me heh <!-- Signature -->

Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? Hm....you seem to be implying a negative connotation, when none should be implied. Yes, BMW could have gotten more horsepower out of this engine. Why didn't they? Well imagine if you were building a car, and you squeezed every last ounce of power out of it the first time around...what do you do when you want to make it more powerful next time? You'll have to start with a totally new design. The word "lazy" should be applied in the most endearing way with this car. Not as some accusation, "hey, you did a crap job".<!-- Signature -->
Re: how can the m5 2000 be slower than the m3 2000???? Roaring Fourties, you not - I didn't imply that the M5 is SLOW by saying it's lazy. If you look at the general application of V8's they are less frenetic in their power delivery than 6's or 12's. Sure, you get the odd high-revving V8, of which I believe the Ferrari Modena is currently the best example. But look at your average V8, the Corvettes, Camaro's, big Bee-Ems and Mercs, even back to the original V8 supercar, the AC Cobra 427. The engines in all these cars, although very powerful, are usually lower-revving and thus more LAZY in their power-delivery than V12's with their dizzying red lines! Just read my posts properly before you begin insulting me!<!-- Signature -->

The 0-60 times of the two cars are about the same, 4.7 or 4.8 seconds.<!-- Signature -->
