KING OF THE ROAD SHELBY GT500 JOINS RARE CHANDLER ROYAL SEDAN ON THE BLOCK AT CANADA’S PREMIER COLLECTOR CAR AUCTION IN TORONTO

Toronto International Spring Classic Car Auction

Over 400 rare and desirable collector vehicles expected to be offered at RM Auction’s Toronto Spring Classic Car Auction at the International Centre, Mississauga, Ontario on April 13-15th including a fully documented 1968 Shelby GT500KR and a sole surviving, two-owner, 1928 Chandler Royal Sedan

CHATHAM, Ontario, Canada (March 21, 2007) – In what has become a spring tradition for over 15 years, RM’s Toronto Spring Classic Car Auction continues to draw an increasing number of car enthusiasts from across the U.S. and Canada to bid on some of the finest and rarest collector vehicles offered in the country. This annual automobile event, Canada’s largest, will be held indoors at the Toronto International Center, April 13, 14 & 15th, 2007.

Highlighting this three-day weekend event is a numbers matching, 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Fastback powered by the venerable 428 cu. Cobra Jet and four-speed transmission. Complete documentation includes the build Sheet, Marti Report, Shelby Registry, and factory window sticker. Dressed in the correct Candy Apple red with black knitted décor bucket seats, sport deck rear seat, special GT equipment package and tilt away steering column. One of only four Shelbys shipped to Canada with these options and colors. A rare opportunity to own a legendary Shelby with outstanding pedigree.

On the sportier side, a classic 1964 Porsche 356 C Cabriolet will be offered. One of the first Porsche models to offer four wheel disc brakes, this true factory 356 C series twin-grill convertible underwent a complete restoration less than 2,000 miles ago. Fitted with the correct Haartz cloth soft top, fully re-chromed original wheels. Also known as the Type 6, this model’s engine was based on the previous Spyder engines, becoming the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche every produced and capable of producing 130 horsepower. This original 356 C represents an outstanding opportunity to invest in an already appreciating collectible.

One of the rarest automobiles in the sale is a 1929 Chandler Royal 8 Sedan. This all original and professionally restored classic has known only two owners from new. After decades of storage the Chandler was professionally rebuilt in the nineties under the watchful eye of the original purchaser’s son who was born in 1930 and grew up with the car. This nut and bolt quality restoration spanned over six years and an investment of $70,000. The result is a unique museum quality car that is not a collection of parts but an original vehicle. There are approximately 100 Chandlers remaining but this is believed to be the only operating Royal four door sedan known to exist.

“This event features many unique and rare cars that you would not likely see at any other automotive event,” says RM’s Dan Spendick, a 30 year veteran of the vintage car business. “But unlike a regular classic car show, here you can take them home,” adds Spendick.

During the auction weekend, RM will also host an indoor swap meet featuring vintage automotive parts, accessories, literature and collectibles. In addition, a large assortment of collectable automobilia, including tin signs, toys, memorabilia, pop machines and antique gas pumps, will be offered on the auction block.

The Toronto Spring Classic Car Auction kicks off with a vehicle preview Friday, April 13th at 12:00 noon, followed by the auction beginning at approximately 3:00 pm. Doors open at 9:00 am on Saturday and Sunday, with auction action starting at 10:00 am each day, and ending at 9:00 pm Saturday and 6:00 pm on Sunday.

Celebrating nearly three decades in the collector car industry, RM Auctions, Inc. and its sister companies are responsible for acquisition, restoration and sales of the world’s rarest and most expensive vintage automobiles including Best of Show winning cars at the prestigious Pebble Beach, Amelia Island and Meadow Brook Concours.
