It's pretty sad that it would take 1000hp to break the 10 second mark for 1/4 mile.

Ehh, not really, once you hit a high level of power you can't go full throttle unless you want to lose control.

Any rear wheel drive car with more than about 600 horsepower will spin in at least 3rd gear which is about the first 7 seconds of a fast 1/4 mile.

Top Fuel cars lose traction across their entire 4-5 second run.
