I dont believe you would compare one of the greatest muscle cars to a foreign car made only to take corners, this is the only period of cars that make a difference the true era of cars.
Muscle cars worth listing vetts, Novas, Hemi challangers, All of the stangs and anything made by the great blue oval.

I agree. I imagine this Vette would slaughter an actual production Ferrari from the same era. Also imgaine it would slaughter most of the racing Ferraris that weren't built strictly for Le Mans.

In a straight line a Vette would wreck a period Ferrari and it would hold its own around corners. It is NOT by any means a muscle car, it is America's only true sports car (or it was, now we got the Viper & Panoz too) Anybody who feels like ripping on the Vette should remember(preemptive) that in its glory days, it was the king of the road.

Oh this car is more than a worthy competitor for any '68 Ferrari. The L88's were great cars and still are great cars.

I'm a little too young to remember the 1960s. However, the dragstrip was all the rage back then. Me, I prefer the racetracks of Europe like Monza, Monte Carlo, and Hockenheim. I think that its great that a car has a ton of horsepower, but horsepower is only a way that makes cars go fast. If one car has 200 horsepower, but goes 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, has a top speed of 160 mph, and turns on a dime, and another car has 500 horsepower, goes 0-60 in 6.7 seconds, has a top speed of 120 mph, and turns like crap, then I'm probably going to take the first car because it's a better performance car. You could put 500 horsepower in a Chevy Suburban, and 300 horsepower in a Lotus Elise, and the Lotus Elise would probably be faster. The Ferraris of the day turned better then the Corvettes, and only wimps don't like to go around corners. I would definitely take a 68 Ferrari over a 60 Corvette because I think it turns better, and would be a lot more fun to drive.
"People drive cars faster then the speed limit because we as human beings like to go fast, and that's because we cannot run that fast by ourselves. This is why it feels so good to drive fast. It's because we couldn't go that fast by ourselves," (Jack).

This car would annhilate a 68 Ferrari at tracks like Monza, Monaco, and Hockenheim. The Ferrari would probably turn a little better, as they do today, but the power/weight ratio of this car was way beyond a 68 Ferrari.

A CL65 has a better power/weight ratio than a Lotus Elise, but I know which would be quicker around a tight-cornered track.
This Corvette is (I imagine) a better car for it's time, as with Ferrari, the road going cars were a bit limp at the time. Unfortunately, I don't think this is the case now.
What I wouldn't do for an Aston Martin DB9.

hmm all depends. i really couldn't tell from ferrari's and 'vette's, especially from the 60s. my knowledge of cars gets fuzzy before, oh, say, 1986? ironic, that's when i was born. i can still pinpoint a '69 camaro from a mustang, but i'm still refining being able to tell a chevelle from a nova. all i REALLY know well about them is that i wouldn't mind having either and people, i have a tragedy story to share with you. this isn't the proper thread in the forums to bring up civics. that's exactly why i'm doing it. i used to slam and flame r.i.c.e.d-out civics and their drivers so much. my favorite joke is "civics are like tampons--every pussy has one," a quote i snatched (pun intended) from somebody's signature in these forums. all i'm sayin' is what goes around comes around. i shoulda kept my big flappin' mouth the HELL SHUT! it was high school graduation time for me a couple months ago, and my grandma was gonna get me a car. for the longest time she'd been promising me her '93 accord. a real decent car. it was a blast to drive. it had plenty of balls, good suspension and balance, the steering ratio wasn't too quick or slow and the wheel turned easy, it was a nice light mint-green color (which i would've changed eventually) and had a hairtrigger gas pedal. real nice car. since i was, oh, maybe 6 she'd been promising this car to me. so now finally it was time to give up. of course, back then she'd counted on herself being dead by the time i was 18. im glad she's still alive, don't get me wrong. but her friend wasn't in such good health, she'd fallen and had busted her arm and hip, and her kids were gonna put her in an assisted living home. she had a sweet little '94 dark metallic green civic 4-door with only 61,000 reading on the odo. so my grandma bought the civic, and the decision was at first up to me which one i wanted. i wanted the accord--i'd driven it before and it was a blast. but then it really came down to which car my grandma could drive. the civic's steering was stiffer, and the gas pedal took a lot more push before the car did the same. smaller, sure, and it had a sliding moonroof to mimic the convertibles my grandma had always wanted, but in the end she decided she wanted to stay with her tried-and-true accord. sum it up, i'm now the actually very satisfied driver of a Honda Civic. and don't worry, i'm not going to slam it. if you're ever in north orange county, california, namely the anaheim/brea/buena park/fullerton area, go on the 91 freeway at night and you're sure to see tons of slammed cheap 4-banger imports. that's the last thing i want to do to my car. my brother and i, who's also really big into cars, want to turn my car into a sleeper. ok, i already made one upgrade, but it's one that was made more for safety than aesthetics--i upgraded from my dim yellow bulbs to some silverstars. i doubted at first how $40 could be worth new bulbs...it was. they're great. huge improvement. they're higher, farther out, brighter, and whiter than what i had before. and now i'm looking into connections at Edelbrock for parts for my car. i already have a parts brochure of theirs, and my mom's boss's brother works for edelbrock, so i'm gonna see about getting their patented IAS shocks with Eibach springs and a turbo for my car. problem is, i really could do with an aerodynamic kit--but a real one. at 90 mph, the steering gets loose and wobbly--i suspect the nasty aerodynamics of the car are actually generating lift, something i'd definitely like to knock out for safety reasons.
point of the story is, folks, knock civic drivers and you'll likely find yourself planted in the front seat of one someday soon--and you may like it. i know i do. the balance and suspension are perfect. i have to pick my brother up from school since he wrecked his ride, and turning onto the school's main street makes you pull a tight 120 degree turn. i blast at it doing 40, wrench the e-brake, and have successfully executed over 15 perfect tail-out drifts around that corner--and it's not blind. i can see if anybody's on the other side of it, so it's not like im endangering anybody or anything except my own tires. and don't knock people who drive civics every time you see one, because who knows, maybe they're like me--don't have the kind of money they wish they had to upgrade the car to sweet levels of stock-looking, sleeper-car performance. knock them if they're r.i.c.e.r.s.

The L88 is definitely a heck of a machine- in a straight line. True, the 'Vette has always been "America's sports car", but until the C5, it really wasn't civilized enough to hold its own with the best of Europe. It would be an interesting race between an L88 and a period Ferrari- just remember, Ferrari's of the late 60's had upwards of 3-400 horsepower.
As for you folks who like to compare on stats alone, look at specific output. Ferrari liked to have its cars eligible for GT racing, hence much smaller engines. Imagine what Ferrari could have done with 8 liters.

The Corvette L88 really is an excellent car. Nice power, nice speed and great looks. But sadly for all those who think it could beat a Ferrari, no its still not good enough.
If you compare it to some of the great Ferraris of that era, it still falls short (Even with Ferraris with a lot less power).
Corvette L88 Ferrari 250 P5 Power 550 300 Speed 273 275
Corvette L88 Ferrari 612 CanAm Power 550 619 Speed 273 280+
Corvette L88 Ferrari 330 P4 Power 550 450 Speed 273 338
This comparison between two Ferrari road cars with a Corvette designed for racing proves my point which is Ferrari had more power in some cars and more speed in others but they could still beat the Corvette (The last Ferrari is a racing version, still beats the Corvette racing version). Apparently from reading magazines an websites dedicated to these great classics, the Ferraris handle tracks better than the Corvette)
You cannot say more power = More speed

Not quite true.
The L88 Corvettes could compete with the street stock FerrariÂs of the day. A comparable Ferrari would be the 67 to 69 Dino. The 550 bhp of the L88 gave the Corvette grunt that the 180 to 195 bhp Dino could not match. However, at less then 2,000 lbs the Dino out-handled the Corvette that weighed close to twice that (3,400+ lbs). Which would win? Depended upon where you were racing. The open highways of America would go to the Corvette, while the twisting European (or American mountain) roads would allow the Dino's to prevail.
As far as out performing Ferrari's race cars of the day, give me a break. LOL@U Just look at the 412P or 612 Canam. The 412P had over 450 bhp and weighed less than 1,800 lbs. The 612 Canam had somewhere over 600 bhp while weighing even less then the 412P. Either of these cars would blow the doors off a 68 Corvette even with the L88 package.
And by the way, the makers of that "Girly Mustang" made the dominant car of the late 1960s... The Ford GT40.

I hate to rain on your parade but any Ferrari designated P, S, SP, or F1 is a racecar. The 612 Canam was also a racecar. Therefore all three of your examples are racecars. Compare the Vette to a Dino.

I was making a point which you clearly did not get:
The L88's description says:
"Chevrolet actively discouraged L88 orders from dealerships and the public. Just what was all the fuss about? The L88 was capable of 170 mph and sported more than 500 horesepower. This homolagtion special was DEVELOPED FOR THE TRACK AND NEVER INTENDED FOR THE ROAD."
(It was driven on roads but it was intended as a race car, for the tracks...)

I think you forgot to think before posting something like this. You said a 1968 Ferrari (Race car/Road car). You also mentioned the P/W ratio of the Corvette 1968 L88 as way beyond any other 1968 Ferrari.
One sentence (I know its a cliche but then for people like you....)
THINK BEFORE U SPEAK (Or type for that matter)
All you Americans there who think I'm trashing this Corvette, no I'm not (I personally love the Corvette), but this guy needs some education. His signature hides his ignorance)

The point you missed is that the L88 Corvette IS STREET LEGAL, with all that is required to be street legal (mufflers, lights, bumpers, DOT approved tires, etc.), had to live up to a warranty, and had a complete interior. The Ferraris you listed are NOT STREET LEGAL, and have none of this equipment or limitation. You cannot compare street legal cars to race only ones.

Obviously I was referring to Ferrari road cars, because this is a road car. I never claimed that this car could beat a 68 Ferrari F1. As far as 68 Ferrari road cars are concerned, none of them would have a chance against this car. It's a fair comparison because this car is fully street legal and is no less practical than a 68 Ferrari for every day driving.

See thats the thing, the Corvette being road legal was built to perform, perform as a race car. So it should be able to beat a Ferrari race car on the track.
And don't forget the guy who said it could beat any Ferrari of 1968. It couldn't beat the race Ferraris.
