34th AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix Nürburgring

The origin of historic motorracing in the Germany

One week after the last win of the famous Tyrrell duo Jackie Stewart and Francois Cevert in the German Grand Prix 1973 the first AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix started with 63 historic racing cars. More than 30 years after the glory days the grid of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix has grown to more than 600 cars. And the cars of the Grand Prix heroes of 1973 like the Tyrrell 006-Ford are now historic racing cars and part of the grid of the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix.

The AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix will take place in the spot of a Grand Prix jubilee double: 100 years of Grand Prix and 80 years of the German Grand Prix. The first Grand Prix in Germany was held at 11th July 1926 on the AVUS track in Berlin, organized since the first event by the AvD. The first Grand Prix in motor racing history took place on 26th-27th June 1906 near Le Mans in France. Beside the races for Historic Formula 1 cars 1966–78 and Historic Grand Prix cars up to 1960 there will be a program with demonstrations of cars and interviews with famous drivers.

The who is who of motor racing

The event started as historic motor racing was done by only a small number of enthusiasts. It has grown with the rise of the scene to one of the biggest events all over the world. Among the spectacular highlights there are the CanAm cars of the ORWELL SuperSports as well as the historic Formula Junior cars of the FIA championship.

Many wellknown drivers come and came to the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix like Derek Bell, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Klaus Ludwig and Walter Röhrl last year. The list of famous names stretches from Rauno Aaltonen to Klaas Zwart including Denny Hulme, James Hunt, Stirling Moss and Walter Röhrl.
